As we began to recover from the horror of our beloved Shih Tzu Maxie being lost last March, shortly afterwards we started to receive letters from an animal hospital in Las Vegas thanking everyone for their support and trying to track down their customer base after an unthinkable nightmare---a fire ---destroyed their building and took the lives of 16 dogs and cats that were boarded there.
I remember at the time when I started to receive the postcards and letters, first wondering what had happened, and second thinking I could not bear any more terrible news regarding animals after what our family had just gone through.
Now, almost one year later I realize that at the same time we were searching for our Maxie, the devastating fire at the Las Vegas Animal Hospital was taking place.
During a trip to Vegas two years ago, Maxie ( yes, he went too) had developed an ear infection and we took him to the Paradise Pet Hospital where he was treated with the utmost care, that we afterwards commented that we wished that we could take this vet back home with us.
I am now remembering, in the customer letters that were sent out, one that talked about the one blessing it was that the animals found inside had not been burned. At the time I could not bear to think about any of this, and I am sorry to say I said a quick prayer and then threw the letters away.
Now, almost one year later, as I am planning a trip to Vegas, I am remembering and am ready to think about this tragedy and pray for the staff and the pet owners for ther loss.
I hear that the cause was an electrical fire, and my understanding is that
Paradise Animal Hospital is rebuilding and soon reopening at the same address on East Flamingo in Vegas and I just want to wish them all the best after what they have been through and say a belated prayer for the animals and families of ,
that died in the fire almost one year ago today.
